UCU nows offers MIT opencourseware
Good morning,
Good news! Uganda Christian University is now hosting Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s (MIT) unique OpenCourseWare educational materials for local university students, through the Uganda Christian University’s campus network (http://mit.ucu.ac.ug).
Anyone can access the localized version of OCW on the Uganda Christian University network and you are welcome to utilize the OCW materials for curriculum development, while students and self-learners may draw upon the materials from virtually all MIT courses for self-study or supplementary use.
MIT OpenCourseWare (OCW) makes the MIT Faculty’s course materials used in the teaching of almost all of MIT’s undergraduate and graduate subjects available, free of charge, to any user anywhere in the world
The Uganda Christian University is hosting the OCW mirror site at http://mit.ucu.ac.ug.

Wow!
Vincent - this is one of the best things I've heard so far this year and a
welcome change from the usual tedious telco bashing.
Any serious individual with the desire to learn & self-drive can go a long
way in harnessing these wonderful resources.
I learnt of MIT OCW some time back and I recall struggling to download some
material (on engineering), but I was stunned by the quality of the
material. On your site, its a lot faster (the beauty of local hosting I'd
imagine).
I'd urge us all, especially the students on this list, to take advantage of
this. Plus you can get even more stuff from Stanford University (via iTunes
University). The knowledge you get could easily help you start the next
Google or Microsoft (an overused cliche I know but why not?)
Regards,
Emmanuel

Hi,
As cool as this is, Makerere has been hosting the exact same data for a while
now:
http://ocw.mak.ac.ug/OcwWeb/web/home/home/index.htm
I found out they did when using our own search engine.
http://search.mountbatten.net/search.jsp?query=opencourseware&hitsPerPage=10&lang=en
Meaning, the Makerere opencourseware is fully indexed, but i currently dont
have the resources to index a second copy.

Would it make sense to suggest a common URL which round-robins to each? Fantastic that we are getting multiple sources though.

Sorry if this is a little late but, I wasn't sure if folks at MUK or UCU
know of AcademicEarth.org (which is more of an aggregator---MIT (OCW),
Standford (Engineering Everywhere [see.stanford.edu] ), Harvard,
Berkeley, Princeton, etc.).
